Election Procedures

The nine members of the Board of Directors are responsible for the overall direction and control of the Credit Union. The bylaws of the LGE Community Credit Union provide for the members' nomination to the Board of Directors by the Nominating Committee. This affords all qualified members the opportunity to take an active role in the nomination and election of their officials. Individual terms are for three years. The terms of three members of the Board of Directors expire in 2023. The Board of Directors has nominated Dr. Susan Browning, Barry D. Jones, and Frank Myers for a term of three years.

About the Candidates

Dr. Susan Browning 

Dr. Susan Browning grew up in Marietta in a family and neighborhood of Lockheed of Georgia employees and became a member of the credit union in 1989 upon marrying her husband, Jack Browning. She attended Georgia State University, West Georgia University and finished her education by earning her doctorate degree at Samford University in Birmingham, AL.  Dr. Browning recently retired from a 32-year career as an educator and administrator in the Paulding County School District.  She served local schools as a teacher and principal, including opening two new schools, Dugan Elementary and North Paulding High School.  She moved into the District Office to serve as an Executive Director of Secondary Schools and retired as Associate Superintendent.  During her career in the District Office, she led in many facets of school life from Teaching and Learning to Operations and Facilities.

Dr. Browning was introduced to volunteering with the credit union by a former Board Member and Chair, who felt her varied experiences as a leader would serve its members well.  She has served as an LGE volunteer since 2017 on a variety of committees and on the Board of Managers for LGEIS/Insurance CUSO since 2020. 

In addition to serving LGE in retirement, she volunteers at her church, Bremen First United Methodist, and enjoys an outdoor lifestyle, hiking, kayaking, and camping with her husband.  Jack and Susan have one daughter, Madison, and two puppy traveling companions. 

Barry D. Jones

Mr. Jones is an experienced consultant specializing in Economic and Community Development, Mid and Small Business Development, and overall Strategic Planning. Mr. Jones began his career as a Financial Analyst for Merck & Co., Inc.  There, he was responsible for all financial reporting for Merck’s Animal Health Division (Agvet). Recognized for his analytical talent, Mr. Jones quickly received a promotion into Merck’s corporate Engineering Division where he was responsible for oversight of all $1.4 billion dollars in engineering projects.

 After leaving Merck and attending Law School Mr. Jones became involved in the Credit Union movement as he consulted for small faith based Credit Unions looking to provide financial solutions to its members and the surrounding communities. It was the experience Mr. Jones obtained working with these small faith based credit unions that launched his interest in community and economic development that resulted in over 25 years of providing consulting services to Local and State governments, Community Development Corporations, Public Housing Authorities, Chambers of Commerce, Community Development Financial Institutions, and for-profit developers.  In the fall of 2001 Mr. Jones contracted with the Bethlehem Community Center and assumed the position of Director of Economic Development. As Director of Economic Development, Mr. Jones worked very closely with the Bethlehem Community Development Credit Union in strengthening its IDA program by assisting with the financial education class for enrolling participants. While Director, Mr. Jones taught Introduction to Business Development for Chattanooga State Technical College.

Over the years, Mr. Jones has worked with a national economic development-consulting firm that specializes in educating low-income municipalities to the benefits of the New Markets Tax Credit Program. This firm oversaw the City of Atlanta’s transition from a Federal economic development “Empowerment Zone” (EZ) Program to the new Federal “Renewal Community” (RC) Program to help underserved communities. In addition, Mr. Jones was selected by the Board of Directors of the Fulton County/City of Atlanta Landbank Authority to act as Interim Executive Director to chart a new course for the Authority. Mr. Jones oversaw the complete overhaul of the Authority and developing its strategic plan for growth and implementation of critical landbanking activities.

In the healthcare sector Mr. Jones has served as Chief Operating Officer for a private medical practice and served as a Director for an international healthcare concern that provided new business development and investment banking advisory services in the United States, South America, and Africa. Mr. Jones has negotiated deals in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa, Brazil and Columbia.

Furthermore, Mr. Jones served as a volunteer to the Board of Directors for LGE Community Credit Union for the past 12 years.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Jones has two children and holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Maryland at College Park and a law degree from Temple University.

Frank Myers

Mr. Myers was a Senior Vice President of Finance and Contract Administration for Cobb EMC and has over 26 years’ experience with electric distribution cooperatives. He currently serves as a director on the South Atlantic Chapter of the National Society of Accountants for Cooperatives (NSAC) board, a director on the Electric Cooperative Chapter of NSAC board and a director at LGECCU. Frank earned a BS in Accounting from Western Kentucky University and an MBA in Finance from Florida State University. He is a CPA, Certified Treasury Professional and member of the Association for Financial Professionals of Atlanta.

Mail Ballots

As provided for in the bylaws, only one candidate is being nominated per vacancy and nominations from the floor are not accepted. Therefore, a vote will be taken at the Annual Meeting.
